Another Successful Southwest Business Event

The communities of Municipality of Souris-Glenwood, RM of Pipestone, Town of Virden, RM of Wallace-Woodworth, Town of Melita, Municipality of Grassland, RM of Sifton, and Municipality of Deloraine-Winchester came together to organize and facilitate the Southwest Business & Entrepreneur Expo.

The Expo was held on February 12, 2020 at the Enns Brothers Place, Melita, MB. It is the third year for this regional business event to be offered in southwest Manitoba. The goal of this expo is to attract and support new and existing entrepreneurs in the region. An exhibition area was available to registrants. “The expo is geared to showcase numerous services available for entrepreneurs in different stages of their business life cycle,” stated chairperson, Iris Vercaigne, Economic Development Officer, Town of Melita. There were learning sessions from industry experts throughout the day. These sessions provided innovative ideas and tools to succeed in the competitive business environment.

Another unique feature of this event is the Business Pitch Competition. This is open to start-up entrepreneurs and existing ones looking to expand. Aside from receiving feedback from the expert panel of judges, they also had a chance to win cash prizes. This year’s winners were the following:

Annual Southwest Business & Entrepreneur Expo

The communities of RM of Souris-Glenwood, RM of Pipestone, Town of Virden, RM of Wallace-Woodworth, Town of Melita, Municipality of Grassland, RM of Sifton, and RM of Deloraine-Winchester have come together to organize and facilitate the Southwest Business & Entrepreneur Expo.

The goal of this expo is to attract and support new and existing entrepreneurs in the region. An exhibition area will be available to registrants. “The expo is geared to showcase numerous services available for entrepreneurs in different stages of their business life cycle,” stated chairperson, Iris Vercaigne, Economic Development Officer, Town of Melita. There will be learning sessions from industry experts throughout the day. These sessions will provide innovative ideas and tools to succeed in the competitive business environment.

Another unique feature of this event is the Pitch Session. This is open to start-up entrepreneurs and existing ones looking to expand. They will not only get feedback from their expert panel of judges, they will also get a chance to win cash prizes.

The Annual South West Business and Entrepreneurship Expo is scheduled for February 12, 2020 at the Enns Brothers Place, Melita, MB. Sponsorships are a key element to the success of this event. “We are fortunate to have a very supportive business resource sector and so far, have been successful in arranging funds from various sources, such as financial intuitions and government agencies,” identified Vercaigne. The committee will continue to pursue sponsorships for the event including tradeshow booths in the next coming weeks. “We would like to encourage business to business interactions as well as business resources that are available,” stated Vercaigne. Anyone interested in the expo as an exhibitor or sponsor is asked to notify the committee at their earliest convenience.

The goal of this expo is to attract and support new and existing entrepreneurs in the region. “The expo will provide an opportunity to new and existing business persons to learn and network.” stated chairperson, Tanis Chalmers, Manager of Economic Development, RM of Pipestone. There will be learning sessions from industry experts throughout the day. These sessions will provide innovative ideas and tools to succeed in the competitive business environment. The sessions include but are not limited to: Working Together, Rural Entrepreneurial Success, How to Create Systems that Enable Business Growth, Develop and Market Your Food Product, and Mindfully Managing Your Business.


Author and Business Owner, Pat Hirst has been selected as one of the keynote speakers of the day. Pat believes in order for our businesses and organizations to thrive, we need to work collaboratively with our own teams and build trust with clients and stakeholders. Relationships matter. In a perfect world, everyone would be good tempered, listen carefully and be accountable for their actions. Registration for this portion of the event is happening now. A limited number of business persons will have the opportunity to present to a panel of expert judges with a chance to win CASH! Successful pitch entries will be notified by January 24, 2019. The successful entries include a tradeshow space to promote their business free of charge!

Provincial funding awarded to Southwest Business and Entrepreneur Expo

We a pleased to be informed that the 2019 Southwest Business and Entrepreneur Expo (SWBE) will be receiving $10,000 from the province. Without sponsorship and funding this event would not be possible. The 2nd annual event will be held February 6, 2019 in Reston, MB. SWBE is paramount to the sustainment and growth of business and entrepreneurs in the Southwest region of Manitoba. The event enables business owners and entrepreneurs to tap into business resources and expertise all under one roof. It provides the opportunity for networking and business development along with the potential for new businesses to thrive through cash prizes.
